Phylogenetic Analyses of Rhizobia Isolated from Nodules of Lupinus angustifolius in Northern Tunisia Reveal Devosia sp. as a New Microsymbiont of Lupin Species

Thirty-two bacterial isolates were obtained from root nodules of Lupinus angustifolius growing in Northern Tunisia. Phylogenetic analyses based on recA and gyrB partial gene sequences grouped the strains into six clusters: four clusters belonged to genus Bradyrhizobium (22 isolates), one Microvirga (8 isolates) Devosia (2 a that has not been previously reported nodulate lupin. Representative each group further characterized. Multi-Locus Sequence Analysis (MLSA) glnII separated within divergent related B. canariense, liaoningense, lupini, algeriense, respectively. The latter might constitute new species. cluster showed high identity with M. tunisiensis. also represent species this genus. An additional phylogenetic analysis symbiotic nodC affiliated symbiovars genistearum, mediterranense, possibly symbiovar. These results altogether contributed existing knowledge genetic diversity lupin-nodulating microsymbionts revealed likely new, fast-growing, salt-tolerant rhizobial as potentially useful inoculant agricultural practices or landscape restoration.
